Week 3

So, we’re off and going, but there have been some problems.

First, many of you aren’t really believing the “pay attention to me” thing. You are starting to lose points because you are not following directions. As this pertains to blogs, please remember these important instructions:

  • All blogging is due each Monday, whether it’s an A or B day
  • Post 3 original posts throughout the week, of a substantial length (2 paragraphs/10 sentences/ and the like)
  • Post 2 comments by going to this blog or the blog page on my site and looking at others’ blogs. Comment on as many as you’d like, but you have to do 2. People like getting comments, so do this. The comments must be several sentences long, not short responses.
  • ENABLE COMMENTS. Go to the options page, click discussions, and make sure that comments don’t need to be approved. If you don’t do this, other students won’t get their points, because their comments aren’t showing.
  • Change your password- Go to Users and Profile, then change the password to something you will remember.
  • Get a blog now! If you still don’t have one, refer to the numerous blog troubleshooting emails I have sent. If you are having trouble, you may have to work harder at it. This includes setting up dummy email addresses through gmail or hotmail in order to receive the confirmation email. Sit down, and get this done.

Following directions in other situations:

  • submit the work I ask for- every assignment has meaning, so not completing things as assigned makes future work difficult and hurts your grade
  • Clean up after yourselves- wasting supplies, vandalism, and leaving a mess means we don’t do projects anymore
  • Read my blog
  • Read the website

Blogging this week:

  • One post on Beowulf
  • One post of the project
  • One post of your choice

Almost made it

Recap:

By this past Tuesday, you should have created a blog, posted one entry, and sent me the link. This gets you 20 points. Those who still haven’t done this and haven’t contacted me in the last 2 days about it are losing points. There is an email with alternate blog sites that shouldn’t give you any trouble.

By next Monday morning (the 27th), you should have 3 more original posts and 2 responses to your classmates. This will bring you to a total of 4 posts.

To make this work, you have to keep it going. Once you have your posts for this week, start right over again early next week. This gives everyone a chance to read and respond. Waiting until Sunday or Monday breaks up the flow.

When you are getting behind in anything, it is best to speak to me or email me upfront. I don’t really accept excuses on the back end.

Pretty good start

Take a look at your fellow man’s and wo-man’s blogs on the blog page or my blogroll to see how everyone’s doing. They are pretty good. Make sure that you go to options- discussions and change it so that comments don’t await moderation.

By next Monday, you should have 3 blogs and 2 responses. Once you start, you’ll be on a roll. Take a look at my last post to see your topics for this week. Writing about the project is a GOOD idea, so that I can see where your head is. As always, write me if you have questions.
